POULSBO, Aug. 6. The “big push” in Poulsbo's quest for a recreation center will start rolling over the Labor day holiday when the community will gather for a gala three-day celebration, proceeds to go toward financing the project. High points will be a carnival, water sports and street dancing. On display will be an inboard motorboat and an Austin car.
Fishing in the Arctic has been especially profitable this year, according to reports from the C. A. Thayer, codfish schooner from Poulsbo, now in the Bering sea. Some 200,000 fish are already in the hold of the vessel and if the catch holds up for the remainder of the season, the Thayer will return with a full load when it starts home in a month or six weeks.
Ike Sageser and Harry Salmonson of the Poulsbo postoffice crew brought home a 10-pound and a 20-pound salmon Monday of last week.
Vinland Community club has postponed its August meeting until Aug. 12 at the community hall.
